Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak’s supporters attended special prayers (Al-Qunut) on Sunday at the Nurul-Islam Mosque in Kumasi in an effort to obtain divine intervention for his reinstatement as the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament. Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase.

Al Qunut is the name of a supplication made to God at a specified time during prayer in support of a specific demand. To seek God’s face, thousands of people participated in Islamic cries such as “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.”

The Mosque’s Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Razak, suggested that it was time for Muslims to unite and support the MP for his support of Muslims and Islam in general.

As Muslims, we don’t intend to disrupt the NDC’s operations, but we do feel compelled to support the MP’s exemplary life, which he has led in a number of Muslim communities throughout Ghana. He urged all Muslims to persist in their demands until the National Democratic Party Leadership acted appropriately.

The Dagomba Line chiefs and residents of Kumasi have also joined the appeal for Alhaji Muntaka’s reinstatement.

In a news conference, Mr Hudu Iddriss Bonsudung, who spoke on behalf of the people, stated that the Minority Leadership in Parliament did not currently include any Muslims or individuals from the North.

He argued that this was inappropriate and that the NDC Leadership would have conducted significant research before taking such a decision.

Alhaji Muntaka and Mr Haruna Iddrisu, according to Mr Bonsudung, represented the four northern regions, and it was crucial that they be reinstated to maintain party unity.

In a letter dated January 23 to the Speaker of Parliament, the NDC announced changes to the Minority Caucus’ leadership, appointing Dr Ato Forson as the new Minority Leader in place of Mr Iddrisu.

James Klutse Avedzi, MP for Ketu North, was replaced as the deputy minority leader by Mr Armah Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle.

Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Asawase, is replaced as the Minority Whip by Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, MP for Adaklu.
