A former bishop of Lighthouse Chapel exonerated of theft allegations

Bishop Emmanuel Oko Mensah’s complaint against the former pastor of Lighthouse Chapel International (LCI) has been recommended to be dropped by the Attorney General (AG).

The recommendation was made after Rebecca Addae, the LCI administrator, accused Mr Mensah of stealing the church’s official car, a Hyundai Elantra, in a criminal complaint she filed against him on June 13, 2021.

After reading the docket and concluding that the accusations of theft against the bishop were unsupported by any proof, the AG made her judgement.

Madam Addae claims that after leaving the church, the bishop refused to give over the car despite repeated requests to do so. The bishop, however, asserted that he had paid for the car’s upkeep out of his own pocket despite receiving it for official use.

He said that keeping the car after resigning was typical and that he wasn’t guilty of stealing.

The Assistant State Attorney, Akosua Agyapomaa Agyemang, spoke on behalf of the AG and stated, “According to the facts of the docket, the car has always been registered in the name of LCI.

No ownership transfer from LCI to the suspect’s name was made. Nothing in the record indicates that the suspect refused to turn over the car when LCI requested it back.

Ms Agyemang came to the conclusion that the bishop could not be found guilty of stealing and encouraged him to give the automobile back to the church.

“Thus, in our judgment, the charges of stealing against the suspect cannot be sustained,” the statement said. In light of the aforementioned, we advise against prosecuting Emmanuel Oko Mensah. Please bring the car back to LCI.

The bishop had already sued the church in April 2021, alleging economic exploitation and emotional and psychological assault.
