On the early morning of February 6, 2023, a powerful earthquake struck Turkey and Syria, causing widespread destruction and leaving a trail of debris in its wake. Videos and photos of the aftermath have circulated on various media channels, showcasing the tireless efforts of rescue workers as they work to save those trapped under the rubble. The quake was one of the strongest to hit the region in a century, and its impact was felt as far as Israel and Lebanon, awakening residents from their slumber.

On Thursday, it was reported that over 16,000 people had lost their lives in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria. Despite the destruction, rescue efforts are still underway in search of survivors. The Ghanaian Ambassador to Turkey, Mrs. Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, assured that measures are being taken to evacuate Ghanaian citizens residing in the impacted regions. These citizens, mostly students, have been accounted for and plans for their evacuation are being made in the coming days.
