Boxing Day Sees an Influx of Tourists at Wli Waterfalls

On Boxing Day, numerous tourists visited the Wli waterfalls in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta region as part of the Christmas festivities. The tourists arrived in groups, as individuals or as corporate entities to enjoy themselves, including dancing and swimming.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Falls at 1415 hours, and found some tourists had already left, while others continued to arrive until 1638 hours. One of the tourists, Benedicta Akpedze Ola, a student, described her first visit to the Falls as breathtaking and said it was an unforgettable experience that she would love to relive.

Another tourist, Mr. Ibrahim Allawin, a foreign national from Kumasi, brought his family along to experience the Falls for the first time. He stated that they had fun and would like to visit the Falls again next year. He suggested that a restaurant should be built around the Falls to provide a place for visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Madam Josephine Larbi, a midwife, visited the site with her children for the first time, and expressed her excitement at experiencing the Falls with her family. Dr. William Obeng-Amponsah, a lecturer at Regent University College of Science and Technology, visited the site with his family and suggested the need for a restaurant and drinking bar. He also proposed that bins should be provided along the path to the waterfalls to prevent littering.

Mr. Paul Nyavor, the administrator of the Wli Falls Office, disclosed to GNA that development projects were underway, including the construction of steel bridges to replace the existing ones. The changing rooms and restrooms were nearly completed, and there were plans in place to handle faecal matter to prevent contamination.

To promote cleanliness, litter bins would be placed along the path to the waterfalls. The office was also installing CCTV cameras to enhance security and digitize operations to reduce human interactions.

Finally, there had been a price adjustment for tourists visiting the site.
