Official Academic Calendar for SHS Single-Track in 2023 (Updated): The Ghana Education Service (GES) announces to the general public, in particular parents, teachers, and students/pupils, that the Hon. Minister for Education has approved the following SHS Single-Track Official Academic Calendar on the recommendation of the Ministerial Committee on School’s Calendar:
This calendar includes extra breaks in addition to the reopening date, vacation date, and midterm break.
Due to the start of the calendar in January 2023, SHS 3 cannot enjoy a prolonged break. This is to allow SHS 1 and SHS 2 to be in school as well.
SHS Single-Track Official Academic Calendar For 2023 (Updated)
The changes made are part of GES’s strategies to ensure normalcy to academic calendar is achieved and the best of tuition is offered all students.
below are some key points from the updated calendar:
- The calendar beginning in January 2023 prevents SHS 3 from taking a lengthy vacation. This will enable SHS 1 and SHS 2 to attend classes as well.
- In order for SHS 3 students to attend class continuously from January 2023 to the end of September 2023, when the WASSCE concludes, the calendar will need to be adjusted.
- Two (2) of the three (3) year groups in the transitional option must be enrolled in class at any given moment.
- Additionally, the Free Senior High School Program, which called for quick fixes, has led to a surge in enrollment in the colleges of education.
- Finally, a break for teachers is guaranteed under the 2023 calendar.
