When Will BECE Candidates Go To SHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially declared the reporting date for first-year students entering Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country. As per the notification, new students are expected to commence their academic journey from December 4, 2023. This date aligns with the information previously disclosed on the Placement forms issued to students.

This year marks a significant step in the academic calendar, especially in the context of adjustments made due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With an aim to return to the pre-Covid academic schedule, GES is ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to maintain a smooth and uninterrupted academic year.

Key Dates and Expectations

  1. Reporting and Registration: The process of registration and orientation for new students will begin from December 4, 2023. This initial phase is crucial for students to acclimatize to their new educational environment and understand the academic and administrative processes of their respective schools.
  2. Christmas Break: In acknowledgment of the festive season, there will be a Christmas break starting from December 21, 2023. This break provides students and staff a much-needed respite and the opportunity to spend time with their families during the holidays.
  3. Resumption and Academic Continuity: Post the festive break, academic activities will resume on January 3, 2024. The academic calendar is structured to ensure that students have ample time to cover their syllabus and engage in all educational activities planned for the term.
  4. Academic Term End: The academic term is scheduled to conclude on March 5, 2024, providing a well-structured and comprehensive educational period for the students.

Important Reminder for Students

GES management urges all students who are yet to complete their Self Placement process to do so promptly. This step is essential to ensure their enrollment in their chosen schools and to facilitate a smooth start to their high school education.

The Ghana Education Service extends its gratitude to all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and administrative staff, for their ongoing collaboration and support in the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) process. The collective effort of all involved parties has been instrumental in reaching this stage of the academic calendar implementation.

In conclusion, GES appeals for continued patience and cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure that the academic year for SHS students progresses without any hitches. This collaboration is pivotal in successfully reverting to the pre-Covid academic calendar, thereby normalizing the educational timeline for the benefit of all students across Ghana.
