At its meeting on Thursday (today), the university Senate of Lagos State University overturned an earlier decision and agreed that the students might go for vacation between Thursday (today) and March 14.

The cancellation of the earlier decision about the date of the second-semester exams was announced in a tweet posted on Thursday on its verified handle with the subject line: “LASU Senate Suspends Examination until 14th March.

The Management of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has reversed its decision to conduct academic activities during the upcoming general elections in response to persistent opposition from the students’ union.

The second-semester exams for the 2022–2023 academic session, which started on that Monday, would last until the evening of February 23 before a four-day break would be observed, the institution had declared on Monday, February 13.

The institution had maintained that its students would return to the exams on Tuesday, February 28, take another vacation between March 9 and 13 and then return on Tuesday, March 14, to finish them.

The management said that the Senate, a group made up primarily of college professors, made their decision following an emergency meeting.

The most recent development went against the minister’s request that all institutions and inter-university centers close from February 22 to March 14 so that students can vote in the general election through the National Universities Commission (NUC).
