Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan has been Elected as the New Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) by the LASU Senate

The Senate of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo elected Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of the University. We are pleased to announce that Omobitan, a Professor of Economics and current Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, emerged victorious after defeating his opponent, Prof. Raheem Akewushola, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, by 132 votes to 65.

The Registrar of LASU, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, confirmed the results and announced that Omobitan would succeed Prof. Wahab Elias, who had completed his single tenure of two years in 2022. It’s important to note that the Governing Council of the University will ratify the election of the new DVC (Academics).

Born on July 5, 1956, in Lagos, Prof. Omobitan obtained his Master of Science and Ph.D. in Economics (Development Economics and Public Sector Economics) from the University of Vienna, Austria, in 1984 and 1987, respectively. He joined Lagos State University as a Lecturer II in 1989 and has risen through the ranks to become an Associate Professor in 2012 and a Professor of Economics in 2015.
