Materials Science and Engineering is the application of engineering, physics, and chemistry principles to the solution of real-world problems in nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, energy, manufacturing, and other major engineering disciplines.

Materials scientists use modern processing and discovery principles to work with various types of materials (e.g., metals, polymers, ceramics, liquid crystals, composites) for a wide range of applications (e.g., energy, construction, electronics, biotechnology, nanotechnology) (e.g., casting, additive manufacturing, coating, evaporation, plasma and radiation processing, artificial intelligence, and computer simulations).

Materials engineers create, process, and test materials for a wide range of products, from computer chips and aircraft wings to golf clubs and biomedical devices.

they research the properties and structures of metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, nanomaterials (very small particles), and other substances in order to develop new materials that satisfy specific mechanical, electrical, and chemical requirements,
