The University of Ghana BSc. Agriculture

Agriculture is the practice of cultivating soil, growing crops, and rearing livestock. It entails preparing plant and animal items for human use and distributing them to marketplaces. Agriculture produces the majority of the world’s food and textiles.

Agriculture courses offered at the University of Ghana

Agricultural Degree

This is a three-semester sandwich intensive program that takes place throughout the extended summer vacation (June to August)

Bachelor of Science in Agricultural

The School of Agriculture offers a four-year undergraduate program that leads to a BSc. (Honours) Degree in Agriculture with specializations in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Animal Science, Crop Science, Post-Harvest Technologies, Biotechnology, and Soil Science.

BSc. /B.A (Family and Consumer Science)

The School of Agriculture offers a four-year undergraduate program that leads to the BSc./B.A (Honours) Degree with specializations in Food and Clothing and Family and Child Studies.

Postgraduate Programs

All departments offer graduate courses leading to MPhil or PhD degrees. The department of Agricultural Economics also offers MAA and MPhil courses in Agricultural Administration.

University of Ghana entry requirements for Agriculture programmes

Diplomas

  1. West Africa Secondary School Certificate (SSSCE) or Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSCE) (WASSCE)
  2. Credit in Core English, Core Math, Integrated Science, and Social Studies, as well as
  3. Passes at least one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Physics, and Elective Mathematics.
  4. Candidates who have passed only one of the three subjects (in B) must also pass the following subjects; Biology, General Agriculture, Crop Husbandry and Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Economics, Geography, and Fisheries are some of the subjects covered.
  5. Agriculture College Certificate or Post-Secondary Teacher Training College Certificate “A”. Candidates who do not meet the aforementioned prerequisites may sit for an admission examination administered by the School of Agriculture.

Bachelor of Science degree

  1. West African Secondary School Certificate: Credit in three core topics, including English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science, as well as a minimum of one year of experience in the field.
  2. Three elective subjects from Chemistry, Physics, Elective Mathematics, General Agriculture, Biology, Geography, and Economics in Senior Secondary School Certificate Exams (SSSCE) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) (WASSCE).

From Diploma to Degree

Holders of the School of Agriculture Diploma Certificate with a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.00 or higher may apply for admission to the BSc Agricultural Course. Level 200 will be open to all Diploma holders.

Higher Degree

For MPhil and MAA degrees, applicants must have an excellent first degree in the relevant discipline. Candidates for PhD degrees must hold an MPhil and have conducted research in the relevant discipline, as specified in the University of Ghana Guidelines for Graduate Applicants.

Are D7, E8 and F9 accepted for Bachelor of Science in Agriculture? 

D7 is a pass, according to WAEC Result Interpretation. Furthermore, the University of Ghana does not consider D7,E8 and F9 as a prerequisite for admission to undergraduate programs.

Recall that the lowest or worst grade you may receive to get into Legon is C6. In this opinion, C6 is a credit, whereas D7 is merely a pass.
