General Notice for Off-Campus Students by ABU-SRC

The Student Representatives Council (SRC) of ABU issued a general notice for students staying off-campus ahead of the January 3rd, 2023 resumption of academic activities.

The notice expressed dismay at reports of some landlords increasing rental fees without any consideration for the hardship faced by the students. The ABU-SRC welfare committee was already in negotiations with the Samuru and Kongo Landlords Association to review the rental fees.

The SRC believed that an increase in rental fees was unfair to the students who did not enjoy the use of their rented accommodations for 10 months due to the ASUU strike and revised academic calendar. Therefore, the ABU-SRC advised affected students not to renew or pay their house rents until the issue of the proposed increment was resolved. A communique was released to brief students on the outcome of the negotiation.

Finally, the SRC urged students to be patient and security conscious during that period.
