Any issues relating to the Computerized School Selection Placement System (CSSPS), according to Nana Afrah Sika Mensah, Deputy Coordinator of the Free SHS Secretariat, would be rectified.

According to the Ghana Education Service, a total of 165,601 candidates will have to undergo self-placement because their school preferences could not be matched.

“Of the 547,329 candidates who took the exam, 538,399 qualified for school placement and 372,780 of these candidates have been admitted automatically to different schools”, the GES stated in a press release.

On Thursday, the 16th of February, 2023, the GNAT Hall in Accra was crowded with parents of kids who took the BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination. The Ghana Education Service established the center to assist with both self-placement and replacement of students in open schools in all categories, with the exception of category “A” institutions.

There have been a lot of complaints from both parents and students about the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) especially this year. Most students are complaining of not being placed in schools of their choice and others, not being placed in any senior high school across the country.

When asked if the secretariat could handle any problems with BECE graduates’ placement, Nana Afrah Mensah responded, “Provided there is a space in the choice that they have made, if there is a space we will replace it for them, but if there is no space we can’t do anything for them, but we will give them options so that out of those schools they will choose and we send to the resolution for them to resolve the issues.”

She also mentioned that various solution centres have been established at all education centres across the nation to assist in resolving problems involving students who have not yet been assigned to senior high schools.

Nana Afrah Mensah further urged all parents and their wards to be patient as the Secretariat works resiliently to resolve all issues students may be facing.
