University of Education Winneba: Difficulties in Obtaining Results and Certificates by Students

By | 7 March 2023

Students from the University of Education Winneba’s two-year post-diploma program who were accepted for the Counseling Psychology degree in 2019 have struggled terribly from the start.

According to information Ghana Education News has obtained from a press release it has seen, students face numerous obstacles while trying to retrieve their grades and diplomas.

The impacted leaders’ counsellors, Mr Joseph Kuusogre and Mr Jerry Akporhor Student have requested that the University of Education Winniba act swiftly to ensure that students enrolled in the Counseling Psychology program receive the same documentation and diplomas as all university graduates.

The student leaders claim that the challenges they have faced began in 2019 when they began the application process. 2019 saw the students submit their applications for the two-year post-diploma program in counselling psychology.

They had to finish their year one program (first and second sessions, which make up the first year) in the same year because their admission was postponed until July 2020.

According to the official program arrangements, the students were scheduled to finish their final session in 2021 and then graduate, however, they only completed their third session in 2021. The students claim that they had difficulty finishing the program in July 2022.

“Unfortunately, our problems were not over, as we anticipated being added to the 26th graduation,” the statement said.

This is the Whole Statement:

” In 2019, we applied for a two-year post-diploma program in counselling psychology via sandwich mode. However, our admission was delayed until July 2020.

We did our first and second sessions, constituting our first year, in the same year.

According to the program schedule, we were supposed to complete our final session in 2021 to graduate, but we only did the third session the whole year.

We eventually completed our last session in July 2022 amidst pull and push.

Unfortunately, our problems were not over as we anticipated to be added to the 26th graduation.

However, it’s been eight months since we finished our coursework, and we haven’t received our results, transcripts, or graduation date.

Before now, we had trouble getting our student numbers. We eventually did get the numbers but still haven’t received our student ID cards which we paid for.

Some of our colleagues haven’t still received PDF copies of their admission letters, except for the email alerts and text messages they got.

We had to virtually beg to know our results, and the university portal has never been opened to us to register for courses like regular students. We try every time they ask us to be we are never successful.

The delay in receiving our transcripts has negatively impacted some of our colleagues’ ability to seek sponsorship while pursuing the program.

Others can’t apply for promotions, scholarships, and further studies without their certificates.

This situation is unfair, and we’ve tried all available options to resolve our issues, but it seems everyone keeps tossing us from one office to another. From admission to graduation, we have nothing to be proud of. We are in the fourth year of pursuing a 2 years program.

In summary, the prolonged delay in accessing our results, transcripts, certificates, and student ID cards is unacceptable, and we urge the relevant authorities to expedite action to enable us to graduate and move on with our lives.
