History of MANEB
The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) was established in April 1987 as a result of a merger between the Malawi Certificate Examinations Board (MCE&TB) and the Examinations Division of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The MCE&TB was established in 1969 by an Act of Parliament to manage the localization process for the development and administration of examinations in Malawi. Prior to these developments, students completing their secondary education sat for the Cambridge High School Leaving Certificate examination.
Following this decision, the MCE&TB Law was amended in April 1987 to reflect the nationality of the central authority, MANEB. This new law gave MANEB responsibility for developing and administering national exams for certification, selection, and placement purposes.
MANEB is a charity whose financial support comes primarily from the Malawian government, supplemented by fees charged for examinations and other services.
