History of MANEB
The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) was established in April 1987, as a result of a merger between the Malawi Matriculation Examinations Board (MCE&TB) and the Examinations Division of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The MCE&TB was established in 1969 by an Act of Parliament to manage the localization process for the development and administration of examinations in Malawi. Prior to these developments, students completing their secondary education sat for the Cambridge High School Leaving Certificate examination.
Following this decision, the MCE & Tuberculosis Act was amended in April 1987 to reflect the nationalization of the Central Authority, MANEB. This new law gave MANEB the responsibility of developing and administering national examinations for certification, selection and placement purposes.
MANEB is a charitable organization whose financial support comes mainly from the government of Malawi, supplemented by fees charged for examinations and other services.
