2023 Leiden University Minerva Scholarship Fund for Study in Netherlands Application Process

Leiden University is pleased to offer several scholarships to both domestic and international students through the Minerva Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is available to students who are interested in studying in the Netherlands and at Leiden University. All students from various academic disciplines are encouraged to apply. The Minerva Scholarship Fund Foundation is committed to awarding scholarships to outstanding students pursuing study and research projects in various fields of study. The MSF is especially interested in funding unique and exceptional student projects, both domestically and internationally. The Minerva Scholarship Fund was initiated by the Leiden Minerva Student Association.

About Leiden University Minerva Scholarship Fund

The Minerva Scholarship Fund Foundation (MSF) at Leiden University provides scholarships for study and research projects to students of all disciplines since 2009. Additionally, the MSF supports exceptional student projects overseas. The MSF scholarships are available to students enrolled in the following faculties: Archaeology, Humanities, Medicine/LUMC, Governance and Global Affairs, Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Science, and the Interfacultair Centrum voor Lerarenopleiding, Onderwijsontwikkeling en Nascholing (ICLON). The scholarship is fully funded and sponsored by Leiden University in the Netherlands. It is worth €2000 and covers research costs, international travel, and living expenses. The scholarship awards are available to international students studying at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level.

Requirements Leiden University Minerva Scholarship Fund

To qualify for the Leiden University Minerva Scholarship for International Students, candidates are required to satisfy the following criteria:
  • Open to applicants of all nationalities.
  • Enrolled in a full-time program.
  • Registered as a Bachelor’s or Master’s student at Leiden University.
  • Membership in L.S.V. Minerva is not mandatory.
  • Applying for an outstanding or prestigious study or research project in the Netherlands or overseas.
  • The project must fall under one of the following categories: internship, study, or research. PhD tracks and complete Master’s programmes are not eligible.

To apply for the Leiden University Minerva Scholarship Fund for International Students, you need to follow these steps:
  • First, download the application form from the official website at www.minervascholarshipfund.com.
  • Then, fill in the form with the required information.
  • Make sure to gather all necessary documents before submitting your application.
  • Submit your complete application dossier before the deadline to the provided address.
The allocation committee, comprising lecturers from various disciplines at Leiden University, will assess all applications based on predetermined criteria. During the evaluation process, attention is given to the relevance of the research and how it will advance academic knowledge. You will be notified about the scholarship award within a month of the application deadline. The application deadline for the year 2023 is on April 15th and November 15th.
