The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is a global financial institution that provides investment, advisory, and asset management services. Its primary goal is to promote private sector development in developing countries. The IFC is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and is a member of the World Bank Group. Established in 1956, it serves as the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group, investing in for-profit ventures to advance economic development.

Qualification Requirements for IFC Graduate Internship Program

  1. Candidates applying for the IFC Graduate Internship Program must currently be enrolled in a Master’s degree level program and have at least three years of relevant professional experience.
  2. The internship program lasts for a minimum of four weeks between May and September, and selected candidates will work on discrete projects in Washington, D.C., or in one of IFC’s country or regional offices.
  3. Most of the posted opportunities are also open for virtual participation, making it easier for candidates to participate from anywhere in the world.
  4. Operational assignments cover various areas of work, such as participation in sector-specific market mapping, investment proposal reviews, financial modeling and analysis, portfolio management, upstream work, and advisory services activities. Other assignments can cover a range of activities in corporate and support departments.
  5. In addition to gaining valuable work experience, Global Interns also get access to corporate orientation, skills training, and regular learning events/activities for the GIP cohort.
  6. After the internship, successful GIP interns will undergo a thorough evaluation process. They are then encouraged to apply to the WBG Young Professionals Program should they meet the application requirements, or to any other full-time opportunity available after graduation.

Application Process for IFC GIP

  1. To apply for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Graduate Internship Program, interested and qualified applicants should visit the IFC website at www.ifc.org. Each year, the GIP receives over 3,000 applications for around 40 positions located in Washington, D.C. and other locations worldwide.
  2. Application Requirements Interested candidates should submit their CV and cover letter, explaining their motivation to apply and how their skills and expertise relate to the internship requirements.

Important Note To avoid disqualification, applicants are advised not to apply to more than three available internship opportunities listed.
