 Objectives of  Indonesian Government KNB Scholarships

The Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship has three main program objectives which are:

  • To improve research capabilities of Indonesian higher education institutions towards the national objective of establishing more world-class universities in Indonesia.

About the Scholarship

The Indonesian Government offers a fully funded scholarship program for international students seeking undergraduate, masters, or PhD degrees.

The program allows recipients to study in Indonesia for the duration of their chosen course. The scholarship application deadline is annually on April 20th.

Indonesian Government KNB Scholarships Benefits

The Indonesian Government KNB Scholarships offer a comprehensive range of benefits to the successful applicants, which include the following:

  • A Settlement Allowance of IDR 1,250,000 will be granted to the new students upon their arrival in Indonesia.
  • During the Indonesian language course and preparatory programs, new students will receive a monthly Living Allowance of IDR 2,550,000.
  • For the Master Program, KNB students will receive a monthly allowance as per the following scheme:
    • Living Allowance of IDR 2,550,000
    • Research Allowance of IDR 400,000
    • Books Allowance of IDR 350,000
  • The scholarship includes health insurance with a maximum monthly premium of IDR 200,000. If the cost of medical services exceeds that covered by the insurance, the student must bear the difference.
  • The scholarship also covers a round-trip international airfare (economy class) from the student’s home country’s international airport to Indonesia, including local transportation to the host university.

Requirement for Qualification for Indonesian Government KNB Scholarships

To qualify for the Indonesian Government KNB Scholarships, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Required Language: English
  • For undergraduate: A minimum score of 80 on the IBT TOEFL, a minimum score of 6.0 on the IELTS, or a minimum score of 700 on the TOEIC.
  • For masters: A minimum score of 80 on the IBT TOEFL, a minimum score of 6.0 on the IELTS, or a minimum score of 700 on the TOEIC (the certificate must be obtained within the last 2 years).
  • For doctorate: A minimum score of 90 on the TOEFL IBT or a score of 7.0 on the IELTS (or other certified English Proficiency Test) or equivalent (the certificate must be obtained within the last 2 years).

Eligible Countries: All countries

Undergraduate:

  • must have a maximum age of 25 years old.
  • must possess a High School degree and provide the scanned degree certificate and academic transcripts in English.
  • must hold a recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General and the employer/immediate supervisor.
  • must provide an academic recommendation letter from previous schools.
  • must show proof of citizenship (Official Passport or Personal ID).
  • must complete the online application form.

Masters:

  • Must be 35 years old maximum.
  • must possess a bachelor degree and provide the scanned degree certificate and academic transcripts in English.
  • must hold a recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General and the employer/immediate supervisor.
  • must provide an academic recommendation letter from previous schools.
  • must show proof of citizenship (Official Passport or Personal ID).
  • must complete the online application form.

Doctorate:

  • must have a maximum age of 40 years old.
  • Hold a master degree and provide the scanned degree certificate and academic transcripts in English.
  • must obtain a recommendation letter from the potential research supervisor in one of the universities providing partner of the KNB Scholarship.
  • must provide a statement of purpose that describes the purpose of their studies, the origin of their interests in studying in Indonesia and pursuing their chosen research topic, and their plans for the academic future.
  • must show proof of citizenship (Official Passport or Personal ID).
  • must complete the online application form.

Need Documents

To apply for the Indonesian Government KNB Scholarship, applicants must submit the following documents:

  • A recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy in their respective country
  • A nomination letter from a government official such as the Ministry of Education or another related government agency (if the applicant works for a government agency) or the Embassy of their Country of Origin in Indonesia.
  • Two academic recommendation letters
  • A scanned copy of their passport’s personal data page or birth certificate
  • Scanned copies of their bachelor’s degree certificate and academic transcripts (in English)
  • A scanned copy of their TOEFL score certificate (or other English proficiency test) obtained within the last two years
  • An official medical statement (official diagnosis) prepared by a certified physician, scanned and submitted along with the rest of the documents

Steps to Apply for Indonesian Government KNB Scholarships

To apply for the KNB Scholarship, follow these steps:

  1. Download the Invitation Letter from the official website.
  2. Submit the required documents, including the Invitation Letter, Passport, Academic Certificates and Transcripts, to the Indonesian Embassy to obtain the recommendation letter.
  3. Complete the online application process.
  4. Wait for the selection process to take place.
  5. The results of the selection process will be announced online through the KNB Scholarship website, and will also be officially announced through the Indonesian Embassy publication network.
