Applications are now being accepted for the Harvard Kennedy School’s Democracy Scholarship program. The scholarship is fully supported by the Ash Center. This program is intended for PhD candidates who are currently completing their graduate studies. Two winners will be selected to receive the prize.
Fellowship Description
Democracy Scholarship Program at Harvard Kennedy School: The Ash Center awards two research scholarships to doctoral candidates at Harvard Kennedy School or other Harvard University students in related fields. The goal of this fellowship is to support the well-defined doctoral work of Harvard University students focusing on social innovation and political participation in non-democratic countries.
Pre-Doctoral Fellows join the Ash Center academic community and participate in the Democracy Fellow Seminar Series. The fellowship gives PhD candidates time and space to work on completing their topics without having to teach in a critical area of their program.
Award Value
Fellows will receive a stipend of $30,000 annually and a shared work space at the Ash Center.

Eligibility and Criteria
Eligibility for the Democracy Doctoral Fellowships Program at Harvard Kennedy School:
- Doctoral dissertation topics should fall within the parameters of the Center’s current focus on innovations in public participation and political participation in democracies or non-democracies.
- Candidates should have an excellent academic record and well-defined research objectives.
- Preference will be given to applicants whose projects have progressed beyond the conceptual stages of the research.
