It’s time to celebrate as Ghana’s talented cyclists brought home their first two bronze medals from the 2023 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Road and Paracycling Championship on Friday. These medals were won in the Youth Women and Men Team Time Trials categories, showcasing the strength and skill of Ghana’s rising cycling stars.

The 19th Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Road and Paracycling Championship, which commenced on February 8, serves as a crucial milestone for athletes looking to secure their spots in the Accra 2023 Africa Games and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

At the 2023 Confederation of African Cycling Road and Paracycling Championship, Ghana made a strong showing, earning two bronze medals in the Youth Women and Men Team Time Trials categories. With a distance of 12km over one lap for the Youth Women’s division, Ghana’s team crossed the finish line in a commendable 52 minutes, placing third. Algeria took the silver with a time of 39 minutes and Nigeria took the gold with a 21 minute finish. In the Youth Men’s division, over a distance of 24 km over two laps, Ghana’s team secured another bronze medal, finishing in 52 minutes. Algeria took the silver while Mauritius claimed the gold.

At the ongoing CAC championship, the Mixed Relay category saw a thrilling competition with Mauritius coming out on top, securing the gold medal. Rwanda put up a strong performance but was overpowered by the Mauritian team. Burkina Faso also performed well and claimed the bronze medal.

A diverse group of 19 African nations were represented at the 2023 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Road and Paracycling Championship, including Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Uganda, to name a few.
