The US Embassy EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) is currently inviting academically qualified and highly motivated, low-income Nigerian students to apply for an opportunity to study in the USA.

Successful applicants will have the costs of their application process covered, registration fees for required standardized examinations, and will receive free membership to the program.

The application window for this opportunity is open and will close in April.

Requirements for Eligibility

In order to qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Complete the application form Submit letters of recommendation Write two essays, one from Group A and one from Group B, of approximately 250-300 words each. Essay topics can be found on the application form.

For Undergraduates

  • Provide a copy of WAEC “O” Level Results Submit JS1 to SS2 end-of-year report (word or PDF files only) If available,
  • provide a mock WAEC result (word or PDF files only)

For Graduates

  • Submit a copy of university transcript (PDF files only)
  • Provide a copy of Statement of Result/Degree (PDF files)
  • Submit a detailed Academic Curriculum Vitae (PDF files only)
  • Include scanned copies of any supplementary certificates of achievement (PDF files only)
  • For Engineering students, provide a copy of GRE result (PDF files only)

Note: Students without WAEC results must currently be in SS3. If WAEC results are available, they must be from the May/June WAEC exam.

Students who have already begun their university education are not eligible to apply.

Criteria for Selection

In order to select the most deserving candidates for the US Embassy EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP),

  • the selection process is highly competitive due to limited funding.
  • Applicants with the following qualities will be given priority:
  • Outstanding academic performance Active participation in extracurricular activities
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities Involvement in community service initiatives
  • Evident financial need
