The Black Stars will face Angola in a doubleheader in March as part of the 2023 AFCON qualification process, with one game taking place in Cape Coast and the other in Luanda. This will be the team’s first test under Chris Hughton’s direction.

The GFA is certain that Hughton will oversee a smooth transfer because of his tactical prowess and understanding of the team’s strengths and shortcomings.

Hughton was born in the United Kingdom but is of Ghanaian origin, thus he is familiar with the nation and its football culture.

As he begins his tenure as the Black Stars’ head coach, the GFA and the supporters are interested to see what he brings to the table.

After Otto Addo left his position as head coach of the Black Stars following the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formally announced Chris Hughton as the next coach of the Black Stars.

The former manager of Newcastle United has extensive experience in the world of football, having held managerial positions with a number of teams.

Teams he has worked with include; Birmingham City, Norwich City, and Brighton & Hove Albion. Additionally, he worked as Tottenham Hotspur’s and Ireland’s assistant manager.

The 64-year-old, who was once the national team’s technical advisor, will assume charge and serve as the team’s first-ever captain in March for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification matches.

Hughton, who had previously acted as the team’s technical advisor, was chosen in order to preserve continuity and familiarity among the members of the team.

Hughton’s experience and knowledge, in the GFA’s opinion, will aid the Black Stars in realizing their full potential.

“Continuity was a crucial element in the appointment of Chris Hughton as the new coach,” a GFA spokeswoman said while discussing the selection.
