The University of Ottawa, sometimes known as uOttawa or U of O, is a multilingual public research university in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Its French name is Université d’Ottawa. The College of Bytown was the original name of the university when it was founded in 1848 by the Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa’s first bishop, Joseph-Bruno Guigues.
