Introduction of “Police Visibility and Undercover” Program to Enhance Security in Public Universities Nationwide

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has announced the implementation of a new program called “Police visibility and undercover” aimed at enhancing security in public universities nationwide.

This program is being rolled out in collaboration with public university authorities to promote a safe and secure environment for academics to thrive.

Dr Dampare spoke about this initiative during his visit to the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani, as part of his two-day tour in the Bono Region.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare mentioned that the police force is dedicated to instilling a strong sense of patriotism in its personnel to effectively address national security issues. In furtherance of this goal, the police administration will provide five dispatch riders to the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) next week to maintain order on campus. The IGP also mentioned that a system will be put in place to identify all entry routes to the university and enhance police visibility, including the intelligence aspect of security.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, expressed gratitude for the establishment of a police post on campus. He highlighted the positive impact of the joint Police and UENR security patrol team in reducing crime within the university community. He expressed hope for further strengthening the collaboration between the Police and the university for the betterment of security.

The Commissioner of Police (COP), Paul Manly Awuni, who serves as the Director-General of the Police Patrols Department, emphasized the importance of police professionalism in earning the public’s respect. He also encouraged students to uphold the law. Prior to his interaction with the University community, the IGP had visited the Sunyani Traditional Council and the staff of the Bono Regional Coordinating Council, where he made a courteous call.
