NABCO YouStart Application Portal Now Open, APPLY HERE

The NABCO programme was designed as a temporary stepping stone for young graduates for a period of three years. In the last three years, 100,000 young graduates have benefitted from the NABCO programme with over 33,000 trainees already securing jobs according to a report by the secretariat.

The remaining 67,000 beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) who have not yet secured jobs can breathe a sigh of relief as they will not be laid off this year. Instead, two windows; the YouStart program and a Digital inclusion program will gradually absorb them in batches during the next fiscal year.

The government will work to ensure that the remaining NABCO trainees are effectively supported to take advantage of the opportunities YouStart presents.

YouStart Programme, What’s Entailed?

The YouStart Programme according to the minister of finance will shape Ghana’s economy into an entrepreneurial one. GH¢ 10 Million Ghana Cedis is expected to be injected into the initiative.

The programme seeks to support young Ghanaian entrepreneurs to gain access to capital, training, and technical skills which will enable them to start, build and grow their own businesses.

YouStart will provide the youth with the following:

  1. Training: Skills development, Entrepreneurial support, and Business advisory service provision.
  2. Funding: Access to competitive credit and starter packs;
  3. Enterprise Promotion: Mentoring and access to markets including portals to facilitate “digital linkages” between youth-led enterprises and other businesses and relevant Government agencies.

In view of this, the Government of Ghana is partnering with a number of banks (GCB Bank Ltd, Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG, Access Bank, Absa Bank, FBN Bank, ADB, Fidelity Bank, Ecobank, and Bank of Africa) in the country to provide credit to existing youth-led, companies as part of the YouStart programme.

“The banking sector is convinced that government wants to build an entrepreneurial nation through youth entrepreneurship. We have decided that this is good, and we want to grow with the private sector.”

“When we say weʼre targeting to create 1 million jobs, weʼre not saying every young man should become an entrepreneur. Weʼre targeting up to 30% of this available workforce that are looking for jobs, thatʼs about 300,000”. he added

NABCO YouStart Initiatives – How to Apply

According to the minister, his team has already worked with NABCO management to see how to bring a sustainable way of looking at the NABCO program.

“We are already working with the NABCO secretariat, and there should be a more sustainable way of looking at NABCO.”

Under the YouStart initiative, a group of NABCO trainees along with some of the leading young companies in the country will receive training and support with between GH¢100,000 working capital and GH¢500,000 for those who need capital to start up. business
