How to be part of the MEPI Leadership Development Fellowship

Applications for the MEPI Leadership Development Fellowship are now being accepted. Leaders from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region have had the chance to complete training in leadership, civic engagement, and social entrepreneurship thanks to this Leadership Development Fellowship (LDF Fellowship).

Developing leaders in the MENA area from a variety of sectors who are interested in addressing social and economic concerns in their communities can take part in a 5-stage, 12-month fellowship.

The Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the U.S. Department of State provides funding for the LDF Fellowship, which is carried out by World Learning.

Fellowship Details

Selected candidates are expected to fully participate in each level of the MEPI Leadership Development Fellowship, which is an intensive fellowship focused on civic participation and social entrepreneurship. The LDF Fellowship will include five stages and last for a full year.

Decisions about LDF Fellowship participation are typically due by the end of June, and the fellowship orientation stage occurs every year between June and August. The five stages of the LDF Fellowship typically last a full year, beginning in August.

The MEPI Leadership Development Fellowship will pay for all international travel, hotel, and health insurance costs. It will also give recipients a small living allowance to use for meals and other expenses incurred while participating in in-person engagements.

There are two paths to the MEPI Leadership Development Fellowship.

Candidates for the English Track must fulfil the following requirements, which are part of Stage Three and involve a trip to the United States:

Candidates must be citizens of one of the following nations: Yemen, West Bank and Gaza, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, or Jordan.

English Fluency: Candidates must be fluent in both written and spoken English and be able to work effectively in academic and professional settings where English is the primary language.

Candidates for the Arabic Track must fulfil the requirements listed below, which are part of Stage Three and entail a trip to Tunisia:

Candidates must be citizens of one of the following countries to be eligible: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, the West Bank and Gaza, or Yemen.

Candidates for the MEPI Leadership Development Fellowship must fit the following requirements for both tracks:

Candidates must be between the ages of 28 and 35.

  • A minimum of five years of professional work experience in a related sector is required of applicants.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of five years of civic participation and/or social entrepreneurship experience.
  • Candidates need to hold a bachelor’s degree.
  • Candidates for both programs must be able to work with ease in academic and professional settings where Arabic is spoken. The majority of online interactions take place in Arabic.
  • All five phases of the LDF Fellowship must be completed by the applicants, and they must be able to do so. During Stage One, Fellows will spend 10 days in an undisclosed location; during Stage Three, Fellows will spend 3 weeks in either the United States or Tunisia.
  • Candidates must be able to use the knowledge and skills they acquire during the LDF Fellowship right away.
