The African Impact Initiative Health Entrepreneurship Challenge 2023 invites applications from African entrepreneurs who have innovative venture ideas or solutions focused on health. This challenge aims to foster the development of ventures that have positive health outcomes in Africa. Through the African Impact Initiative, in collaboration with experts from the University of Toronto Entrepreneurship, selected teams will receive comprehensive training, mentorship, and funding opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:

  • Be African entrepreneurs with venture ideas or solutions that center around health innovation.
  • Have an affiliation with the African Higher Education Health Collaborative.
  • Focus on improving positive health outcomes.
  • Commit to dedicating full-time effort to building their solution.

Benefits of the African Impact Initiative Health Entrepreneurship Challenge:

Selected teams participating in the Health Entrepreneurship Challenge will receive:

  • A comprehensive training and mentorship program.
  • Funding of up to $25,000 CAD for each top-performing venture.
  • An all-expenses-paid, four-month trip to Toronto, Canada, to expand their entrepreneurship network and engage in learning opportunities.

Selection Criteria:

Your idea should:

  • Address an identified problem or challenge in your country, providing a comprehensive solution with a clearly defined objective.
  • Prioritize driving social impact by enhancing adoption, accessibility, or affordability.
  • Demonstrate innovative business models that are scalable and sustainable.

Eligible teams will be onboarded to a virtual platform for the pre-incubation phase starting in May 2023. This phase will provide capacity building to validate and develop ideas or solutions in a scalable manner. Top-performing teams will proceed to the incubation phase, commencing in July, following interviews and selection.
