Final year students in Senior High Schools will sit for their final exams on August 3 after six weeks of studies, says the Education Ministry.
Briefing the media on details of the partly reopening of schools on Tuesday, Education Minister, Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, announced that exams will span across five weeks after the tuition period.
“They will be there for academic work and revision for six weeks, do their West Africa Examination Council, the Ghana exams that we understand will take five weeks,” said. Dr. Opoku-Prempeh stated that the WAEC Ghana office has been consulted to set unique questions for various countries since others in the sub-region are tackling the pandemic and its effects differently.

The Minister also directed that there should be no assemblies, religious activities or any mass gatherings when the schools re-open. School with equally be closed to visitors during the stay in period for final year students all in a bid to prevent an outbreak in the institutions.
All day students will be made to live in schools’ boarding facilities, Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh said. Schools in Ghana will reopen partly as the country gradually begins to ease restrictions following a weeks-long shut down aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.
In a televised address on May 21, 2023, Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced various measures aimed at easing restrictions. The president said schools will reopen their doors to final year students scheduled to take their last exams this year.

“Prior to the opening of schools and universities, the Ministry of Education, and the heads of public and private educational institutions, will fumigate and disinfect their institutions. Each student, teacher, and non-teaching staff will be provided with re-usable face masks by the Ministry of Education”
For the avoidance of doubt, all other educational facilities, private and public, for non-final year students, will remain closed,” said President Akufo-Addo. The president gave the green-light to finalists in Junior High, Senior High school and universities to report to school to prepare for their exit exams.
