BECE scores are calculated using your top 6 subject scores. These include the four core subjects (Mathematics, English, Common Science, and Social Studies) with the best two elective subjects.
See below the sample results obtained by a 2022 BECE candidate and how to calculate the aggregate score.
Eg. Assuming a student has the below results in his or her BECE exams;
Results
ENGLISH LANGUAGE 1 HIGHEST
SOCIAL STUDIES 2 HIGHER
REL.& MORAL EDUC. 3 HIGH
MATHEMATICS 1 HIGHEST
INTEGRATED SCIENCE 2 HIGHER
INFO. & COMM.TECH. 1 HIGHEST
FRENCH 2 HIGHER
B.D.T./HOME ECONS. 2 HIGHER
Here, to obtain your grade, you will take the first best core ( English, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Integrated Science) => 1+2+1+2 = 6.
Now Look through your results and get the 2 best elective subjects ( Info. & Comm. Tech, B.D.T,) => 1+2 = 3.
(English + Mathematics + Integrated Science + Social Studies) + ( Info. & Comm. Tech + B.D.T)
=> 1 + 2 +1 + 2+1+2 = 9.
In this case, the candidate has obtained an aggregate
9 score in the above results.
The better your BECE score, the higher your chances of getting into the
school of your choice. GES uses the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to place students in various schools across the country.
