The Billionaire’s Wife, a 10-part drama series, has been announced by African streaming service Showmax as its upcoming Original title in Ghana. It will be available on the platform starting on 2 March 2023.
The Billionaire’s Wife centers on Adepa, a 19-year-old from the Ashaiman slums who marries an elderly millionaire in the hopes of changing her life, only to discover that it’s the hardest thing she’s ever done to be a billionaire’s wife.
The 45-minute episodes take place in Accra’s glitzy, disorderly, unpredictable, and scandalous society of the wealthy and powerful.
Adepa is caught in an unending struggle for survival where nameless foes, backstabbers, and schemers will do whatever to expose her as a fraud and a gold digger.
Adepa is portrayed by newcomer Andriana Akua Amegbor, who co-stars with Public Figure’s Kingsley Yamoah, Roselyn Ngissah, Ken Fiati, Pascaline Edwards, and Selassie Ibrahim,
Foster Romanus, Ophelia Walker, Helen Lois , Godwin Kwesi Blay Ekra Jr., and newcomer Florence Nana Ama Agyei.
The Ad-Visors team of Danny Adotey and Collins Amlalo, who are best known for the critically acclaimed drama Inside Out by Akwaaba Magic, respectively direct and produce The Billionaire’s Wife.
“This series was inspired by countless real-life stories of rich men taking young wives,” series producer Amlalo said.
“While this in itself is not a new phenomenon, the rise of social media coupled with today’s culture which openly celebrates money-driven relationships is making them commonplace, forcing us to rethink our attitudes towards these relationships.”
The Shirley Frimpong-Manso drama ENO, which ranked in the top 10 most watched shows on Showmax in Ghana in 2022, and the docu-reality series My Perfect Funeral, which explores Ghana’s distinctive funeral customs, precede The Billionaire’s Wife as the third Showmax Original in Ghana.
