Parliament Settles GH¢8.5 million of GH¢13 million Owed to ECG
To avoid disconnection from the national grid, the Parliament has paid GH8.5 million of its GH13 million debt to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The payment was made during a visit to the House by ECG’s revenue mobilization group on Monday, March 20, 2023.
According to Joy News’ James Avedzi, ECG has initiated several schemes to recover approximately GH5 billion owed by both private and public entities. The amount is the result of these entities’ failure to pay since August of last year.
ECG started the exercise on March 20, 2023, by shutting down its major offices, except for customer service sections, for one month. To recover payments due to the corporation, all ECG personnel, from top management to subordinate officers, would be utilized.
ECG’s Managing Director, Mr. Dubik Mahama, has toured all the company’s operational zones to educate employees on maximizing revenue. He emphasized the importance of customer service and that ECG is a business, not a charity. He reminded the staff to act like businesspeople.
It is anticipated that by the end of the exercise, ECG will recover 100% of its debt
