Africa Image Conference to be Held in Ghana in May.

Ghana is preparing to host the first-ever Africa Image Conference from May 25 to 27, 2023, aimed at devising strategies and projects to rebrand the image of Africa for development. The conference, themed “Rebranding Africa-Changing the Narratives,” will bring together Pan Africans, Brand Consultants, Africa Image Ambassadors, and Content Producers from around the world.

In a statement issued by the African Chamber of Content Producers office in the Greater Accra Region, it was noted that despite Africa’s rich history, negative stereotypes continue to shape its public image, making it challenging to overcome outdated perceptions. The statement suggested that through well-crafted stories on Africa’s diverse range of cultures, societies, economies, and success stories, content could be used effectively to change these negative perceptions.

According to the statement, the conference will provide an opportunity for Pan Africans around the world to collaborate and develop long-term rebranding projects. Attendees will gain invaluable insights and knowledge about the region, network with Pan Africans, be trained on Pan-Africanism Communication by Pan African Institutions of higher learning, and be part of an active dialogue on the challenges faced by Africans today.

Nana Dwomoh-Doyen, Benjamin, an Executive Director of the African Chamber of Content Producers, stated that the conference would be an invaluable opportunity for those interested in African issues to gain knowledge and expertise about the African continent, network with influential Pan-Africans, and be part of a dialogue that could have a positive impact on the African continent.

Dr Prince Kwame Darko, an Image Ambassador for the African Chamber of Content Producers, said the Chamber planned to use content to highlight success stories from ordinary Africans doing extraordinary things, such as those creating apps addressing needed solutions or innovators utilizing technology to improve life on earth.

Phil Efe Benard, the President of the Nigeria Chamber of Content Producers, said content marketing offered a viable solution to rebranding Africa’s image by shining a light on untold narratives rooted firmly within Africa’s history awaiting discovery. In addition to informing readers and viewers about topics such as infrastructure development or technological advances, persuasive contents outlining ways investors could benefit from putting money into nascent markets are useful.

The Africa Chamber of Content Producers, which currently has about 1,000 members across 50 countries in Africa, is guided by the constitutive act of the African Union and in accordance with the principles and objectives of the African Charter on cultural renaissance on the use of media in promoting culture. The Chamber will also host the ‘Model AfCFTA Pan African Trade Exhibition’ during the conference to showcase the world that Africans can trade among themselves.
