The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has in the interim and with effect from August 8, this year, relocated the examination center of Bright Senior High School (SHS) to Ofori Panin Senior High School at Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region.

“This is to ensure the integrity of Examinations and safeguard the lives of examination officials (Supervisors, invigilators and WAEC) assigned to Bright SHS.”
This was in a statement issued and Signed by Mrs Wendy E.Addy-Lamptey, Head of National Office, WAEC, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, following alleged attacks on examination officials and the media by some students.

The statement said, “WAEC has noted with grave concern reports of unruly behaviour of candidates at some examination centers following the commencement of WASSCE for school candidates on August 3, 2023.”

It said it was particularly appalled at the riotous behaviour and assault on WAEC officials and media personnel by candidates of Bright SHS at Kukurantumi on August 6, 2023.

The statement said, “such behaviours contravened Section 8(1) which frowns on sanctions, acts of assault on examination officials.”

It said the Council would not hesitate to sanction Bright SHS, its staff and candidates found culpable in the action and future incidents.

“WAEC cautions all school authorities that it will not hesitate to take legal action against any person involved in compromising the integrity of the examination in any manner”.

The statement encouraged all supervisors and invigilators to continue to be vigilant and carry out their duties diligently and without fear.
