    The UNESCO Silk Roads Youth Research Grant, launched in 2021, is an initiative of the UNESCO Silk Roads Programme with the support of the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO, as part of the UNESCO Social and Human Sciences Programme.

    UNESCO invites young women and men under the age of 35 to apply for the 2023 Silk Roads Youth Research Grant. This grant aims to engage young researchers in further study of the shared heritage along the Silk Roads.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Applicants must be 35 years old or younger.
    • Interested applicants should be pursuing postgraduate-level research in the fields of Science and Technology and Traditional Knowhow, Religion and Spirituality, Language and Literature, Arts and Music, Traditional Sports and Games, Economy and Trade, Silk Roads Legacy, Contemporary Issues, or related subjects. Process:
    • The deadline for submitting proposals is May 31, 2023.
    • The submitted research proposals will be evaluated by a scientific panel consisting of renowned international academics.
    • The list of grant awardees will be announced in October 2023.

    • Applicants must download and complete the provided template, which outlines their research project, including its methods, expected outcomes, and contribution to existing scholarship.
    • Proposals should be submitted in English.
