Universities to Reopen in January

Following the closure of schools as part of measures put in place to limit the spread of the novel Coronavirus in the country, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated that the reopening date and the new academic year for both new and continuing university students starts from January 2024.

President Akufo-Addo in his 18th Nation Update has announced that the 2024/2025 academic year will resume in January 2024.

The president announced this in his 18th address to the nation on efforts taken by the government in the fight against the disease.

“SHS 2 and JHS 2 students are back in school, as are some students in tertiary institutions and colleges. Indeed, the academic year for new and continuing University students will commence from January 2021,” the President announced.

Tertiary institutions in the country, especially those that have completed the 2024/2025 academic year, have been waiting for the government to make such an announcement.

The reopening of school for students in the university have been a major search by students on the media.

During this long period of wait, tertiary institutions announced their readiness to commence the 2024/2025 academic year.

Early on, University of Ghana, has proposed to start the 2024/2025 academic year in November.

With Akufo-Addo announcing that the 2024/2025 academic year will resume next year, plans by institutions such as the University of Ghana, have been obstructed.
