It is with great concern that we report the abduction of six pupils from the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Primary School in Alwaza, Doma LGA of Nasarawa by gunmen. This unfortunate incident occurred at approximately 7am on Friday when the school was attacked.
The police spokesperson in the state, Rahman Nansel, has confirmed this incident to TheCable, assuring that a search-and-rescue operation is ongoing. He has also expressed his condolences to the families of the abducted pupils.
We understand that Nasarawa is one of the north-central states currently battling insecurity. There have been several attacks on communities in Nasarawa over the years, which have resulted in the loss of lives, abductions, and displacement of families.
We appeal to the relevant authorities to step up their efforts in ensuring the safety of our communities and securing our schools.
We must do all we can to protect our children and ensure that they can access quality education in a safe environment.
