The GBA is committed to nurturing Ghanaian boxers to become global champions
The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) is determined to assist local boxers to achieve the status of world champions through the Ghana Professional Boxing League (GPBL), says Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye, the GBA President.
The GPBL was introduced last year to develop and nurture new talents in the sport and provide a pathway for boxers to compete in world bouts.
In an interview with GNA Sports, Mr. Kotei stated that the GPBL is an integral part of the process for boxers to attain world titles.
He emphasized that to qualify for continental titles, a boxer must fight at least eight local bouts, contest for the national title, and subsequently earn the right to compete at the continental level.
The GBA President highlighted the league’s importance in promoting and encouraging young boxers, and announced plans to expand the GPBL to include all regions of Ghana. He praised former world champion, Isaac Dogboe, for setting a great example for emerging boxers to learn from, as he prepares to fight Cuban Ramirez Robeisy in April 2023 for his second world championship.
Mr. Kotei called for the collaboration of all stakeholders to support the GBA in realizing its objectives.
