Steps to Cancel SRD Grant (R350) Application

Have you applied for the R350 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) but now need to cancel it for some reason? Here’s what you need to know. The President declared a National State of Disaster due to the Covid-19 pandemic and introduced the SRD Grant to provide financial assistance to unemployed individuals who don’t receive any other income or grants.

If you find yourself in a position where you need to cancel your SRD Grant, there are a few steps you can take. One common reason for cancelling the grant is that you have found a job or now have sustainable financial income. Whatever your reason may be, follow these steps to cancel your grant.

The SRD Programme is authorized by the Regulations made under Section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002): Measures to prevent and combat Covid-19.

Steps to Cancel Your SRD Grant (R350) Application

If your circumstances have changed and you no longer need or qualify for the special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant, you can follow these steps to cancel your application:

  • Visit the SASSA SRD website: srd.sassa.gov.za/
  • Scroll down to the “Cancel my Application” tab.
  • Click on the yellow bar labeled “click here to cancel online”.
  • Provide your ID number and mobile number, and then click “send pin”.
  • You will receive an SMS with a 6 digit One Time Pin (OTP) number.
  • Insert the OTP number on the required field to verify your pin.
  • Click “cancel my grant”.
  • A message will pop up to confirm the cancellation of your grant.
  • Click “yes” to continue with the cancellation or “no” to discard.

If you need help during the process, you can call or WhatsApp the helpline for assistance. Make sure you have your ID number and the details used in the registration process in case it is requested.

Once the cancellation process is complete, you will no longer receive money from SASSA until you start the process again. It is important to inform them of any changes in your circumstances if you are receiving the SRD grant.

The Social Relief of Distress may be given in the form of a food parcel, a voucher to buy food, or cash in some provinces. Note that applications for the special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant are only done electronically, and SASSA will request confirmation of your bank account through a secure site.
