NUC Approves 37 Programmes at LASUSTECH

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has announced that it has received the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer 37 academic programs.

During a briefing, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, revealed that 1,850 students had been admitted as pioneers for the approved courses out of over 16,000 students who applied.

He explained that the admission was in compliance with the NUC’s directive that each of its 37-degree programs should not admit more than 50 students. The matriculation ceremony for the new students is scheduled to take place this month.

Professor Odusanya highlighted that the institution’s administration is focusing on six strategic initiatives, represented by the acronym IMPACT, which stands for Infrastructural development, Manpower development, Prosperity and property of both staff and students, A strong University culture of academic excellence, discipline, transparency and best practice, Catalyst to the Lagos State agenda, and Town and gown partnership in the context of an entrepreneurial university.

He emphasized that funding is a critical aspect of the university’s success, and the government alone cannot bear the burden of tertiary education.

Therefore, the institution calls on philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to partner with them to support the new university. Partnerships can take the form of endowing professorial chairs, lecture halls, donation of books, equipment, laboratories, and computers.

The institution will be accountable and provide the best value for all the resources given. Professor Odusanya concluded by calling on everyone to join hands in raising the banner of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, the university of excellence, higher and higher.
