Medeama SC Ordered by FIFA to Pay Former Player Ahmed Toure GH¢100,000 in 45 Days or Face Ban.
According to a document dated January 30, 2023, and passed on January 25, 2023, by the sole judge, Dana Al-Noaimi, FIFA has ordered Medeama SC, a Ghanaian Premier League club, to pay Ahmed Toure, a former player, over GH¢100,000 for a breach of contract. Joy Sports gathered this information.
The FIFA document states that the outstanding remuneration owed to Toure amounts to GH¢60,900, while the remaining GH¢40,600 is compensation for a breach of contract. If Medeama SC does not make full payment, including interest, within 45 days, the club will face sanctions that include a ban from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, up until the due amount is paid.
According to the FIFA document, “Pursuant to art. 24 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, if full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the following consequences shall apply: The Respondent [Medeama] shall be banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, up until the due amount is paid. The maximum duration of the ban shall be of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods.”
If the payment is still not made by the end of the three consecutive registration periods, the matter will be submitted to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee. Toure joined Medeama in February 2021, but his time with the club was short-lived.
He was suspended for a week and fined GH¢1,500 for alleged gross undisciplined behavior towards coach Umar Rabi. He then took the club to FIFA for ill-treatment, leading to the recent order for payment. Medeama SC has 45 days to make the full payment or face the consequences, including a transfer ban for the club.
