Is Registration For BECE and WASSCE In 2023 free? Verify the details

By | 21 March 2023

Stakeholders are inquiring as to whether registration for BECE and WASSCE in 2023 is free. There are various causes for the question to have come up. It is not entirely free for candidates from public and private schools to register for the WASSCE and BECE.

The two independent exams’ costs can be roughly divided into two categories. Which are:

The cost of the WAEC examination, which is payable per subject and candidate,

Administrative costs – These include, among other things, the price of processing and entering data, sending registration information over the internet, registering online, paying for the internet, and getting passport images.

The WAEC-announced examination fees will be sent to WAEC per student or per subject; however, parents will be required to pay additional fees in order for schools to have students’ information ready for the exam registration. Most public second-cycle schools find their own ways to cover the additional costs associated with registering students for the WASSCE.

For entry in the seven or eight subjects that WAEC has published, the approved WAEC registration fee is GHC 381.24. This amount does not include the costs for the practical or oral tests, which range from GHC 14.50 to GHC 19.50 for each practical test. Any administrative costs that the schools will incur are not included in this charge.

The receiving officers of examination registration documents (printed registration details, CDs, among others) force schools or school representatives submitting these files to pay submission fees during the submission of student examination details at the GES Exam units in each district or circuit.

Because they are not authorized charges by the GES or WAEC, this money is never reported. Officers retuning or submitting exams won’t finish the submission if they don’t pay, and no receipt is given.

If a school submits their work after the deadline, a penalty may be assessed. This entails, among other things, purchasing one A4 sheet of paper for the officers.

Schools are compelled to charge extra fees for the exam as a result of the monetization of the BECE and WASSCE registration, as mentioned above.

It is obvious that schools will charge more to register BECE and WASSCE candidates since they will have administrative costs.

Is registration for the WASSCE and BECE in 2023 free? It is not fully free, though. In order to cover administrative costs, parents of students in SHS and JHS frequently pay additional fees in addition to the exam prices issued by WAEC.
