The Regional Maritime University (RMU) is an international academic institution in Accra, Ghana. On 25 October 2007, it was officially recognized as a full university by the Honorable John Agyekum Kafur, President of the Republic of Ghana.
RMU is based in the former Ghana Maritime College, established in 1958 to train officers for the State Shipping Company (Black Star Line).
The Government of Ghana promulgated the Regional Maritime Act 1982 on October 1, 1982, and this was followed by the signing of the Transfer Document, which handed the college over to the Ministerial Conference of West and Central African States on Maritime Transport (Minkunmar). , now known as the Maritime Organization for West and Central Africa (MOWCA), which negotiated the territorialization.
