ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO Fully Funded PhD Scholarship for Developing Countries

The ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship is available to young scientists and scholars from developing countries around the world who want to advance their knowledge and careers.

The awardees will be paid to study for doctorates in China for up to four years. Candidates who are interested should submit their applications.

Scholarship Details

  1. Up to 40 students/scholars from developing countries will receive full funding for this program as part of an agreement between the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS/UNESCO) for the advancement of science in developing countries.

A non-profit, non-governmental international organization called the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) was established in 2023 with the objective of developing and training young scientists from all over the world. The ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship, a subcategory of the ANSO Scholarship, is being formally introduced this year.

Award Benefits

The scholarship program covers the following:

  1. Tuition waiver
  2. Monthly stipend: 6,000 or 7,000 CNY/month, up to 48 months
  3. Health insurance
  4. Application fee waiver
  5. International one-trip travel allowance from awardee’s home country to China
  6. One-time visa

Place of Study

The program will be held at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences University (UCAS).

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship:

  • Eligible applicants must not be Chinese citizens; they must be nationals of eligible developing countries in the South (See list).
  • Applicants must be under the age of 35.
  • Applicants must be fluent in either English or Chinese.
  • For PhD program applicants, you must have been born after January 1, 1988 (inclusive).
  • Eligible applicants must meet the admission criteria for international students at USTC/UCAS; Eligible applicants must not accept any other assignments during the scholarship period.
  • If the applicant is currently pursuing a doctorate at any Chinese university or institution, he or she will be ineligible for the PhD program of this scholarship. Otherwise, admission will be denied and the situation will be reported to the current university/institution.
    Women’s applications are strongly encouraged.

Application Procedure

In order to be considered for the award, applicants must file and submit their applications in the USTC / UCAS admission system by the deadline.

You are not permitted to apply for the ANSO Scholarship through both USTC and UCAS at the same time; otherwise, you will be denied admission.

The deadline for submissions is February 15.
