Conditions for the University of Bonn Ph.D. Scholarship
International doctoral applicants who are enrolled in a university or research facility in Africa, South America, or Asia are given preference.
Funding is not available to doctoral applicants who are already enrolled in the University of Bonn’s Ph.D. program. Funded individuals should complete their doctorates at their own universities (to avoid brain drain)
Selection Process
anonymous pre-evaluation by unaffiliated specialists from the University of Bonn
Final choice: a committee composed of members from each of the faculties at the University of Bonn will debate the shortlist and choose the fellows.
Up to five projects may be funded, depending on the sums sought.
Ratio of 2021 approval: 8 projects, 4 grants

- How is the application submitted?
- A full-time professor from the University of Bonn must submit the application.
- Per host or professor, up to two applications may be taken into account.
- A motivational letter that has been signed is required of PhD candidates.
